God Alone, Our Only Savior

“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus [‘YHVH is Salvation’], for He will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:20-25

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. Luke 1:32-35

But only God can forgive sins (Luke 5:20-25, Mark 2:5-12). God affirms that He alone will be the only savior.

I, I am the Lord [YHVH], and besides me there is no savior. Isaiah 43:11 Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me. Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’ Isaiah 45:21-23 (compare Philippians 2:10-11)

Then all flesh shall know that I am the Lord [YHVH] your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. Isaiah 49:26

His [YHVH’s] right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known his salvation; Psalm 98:1

But I am the Lord [YHVH] your God from the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior. Hosea 13:4

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent The Son as Savior of the world. 1 John 4:14 & John 4:42

…so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. Titus 2:10 & 1 Timothy 4:10, Jude 1:24-25

Jesus is God

In the person of Jesus, we see God Himself, our savior. While we all sinned and corrupted our way, God took on flesh and lived among us, faced the same struggles and temptations, and yet lived perfectly. Then suffered and died the death that we deserved, in our place, so that we could live at peace with God.

He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede; then his own arm brought him salvation, Isaiah 59:16

Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? ... He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief… Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53
